I will once more be “on the road again”…I’m going to Peru! March 8-17 I will lead a small group of college students from Fairmont University in West Virginia to the capital of Peru, Lima. We’ll work to get a copy of God’s Word (in the form of the Book of Hope) into the hand of every child we come in contact with. We do this mainly by performing in school assemblies and classrooms and blanketing a particular area of the city. It’s a process of engaging students with God’s Word through a dynamic presentation of dramas, sharing life stories, and distributing numerous books. We partner with the network of churches in that area and work side by side with Peruvians. Follow-up is done by these churches after our team leaves.
Why am I doing this? Because I know that I know that I know that God’s Word is living and can change these kids’ lives, offering them hope, answers to life’s issues, and avenues to change their communities. I’ve seen it and heard numerous stories of people who have gone back years - even decades later - to areas where the Book of Hope was distributed and have seen transformed households and communities. I’m praying this for the children and mothers and fathers and siblings and grandparents and friends and neighbors of all who receive God’s truth. Please partner with me in prayer as well.
On the right is a picture from my last trip to Peru back in the summer of 2005. I’m excited to see our national staff again and hug old friends. The language barrier will be there, but our hearts are united in Christ and it’s so warming! I’ll also be looking forward to driving through the streets of this European influenced city with it’s own spots of magnificent architecture and poverty alike…eating lots of chicken, Inca corn and papas fritas (French fries), Guinea Pig, and drinking Inca Cola (the national soft drink), …listening to pan flutes and looking into the faces of Inca descendants and Europeans all mixed together…seeing llamas.. and much, much more…
More to pray for:
*Safety and health
*A sense of unity among all workers
*Boldness and courage to speak and perform what God is putting in our hearts
*Favor in the eyes of students
*Creativity in troubleshooting any problems that may come up
See ya when I get back! ~Vanessa
